I pride myself on capturing the natural beauty of people, trying not to completely alter how they look. But there are things we have to perfect, draw attention to...or draw attention away from in order to make the photograph the special image that it is.
For some images, editing is a piece of cake. Maybe it only needs some color correction, smoothing out, or maybe it could use a little brightening up or cropping. And boom! That one was easy. On to the next 342...
Others though, are just shy of being amazing. And I spend a little extra time on those.
The photo comparison above shows why editing can be magic.
The original photo isn’t bad. It definitely needs to be brightened, color corrected, etc. (Sometimes I like to use black and white to make the moment feel more intimate.) But something about the photo was missing. It wasn’t just WOW, you know?
Now I am not trying to diss momma in any way. She is a wonderful lady, and loves her baby so much. BUT her hands seemed to take away or interrupt the special moment dad was having with his son. I felt strongly that this needed to be remedied to make them love this photo even more than they would have.
So I simply (lol yeah right,”simply”) took out her arms and hands altogether! I do not do this on many images on a regular basis, but I knew this one needed some magic ;)
So, whenever you are thinking “Whoa! 4-6 weeks before I get my photos?!” it’s because your photographer is working very hard to make your final images absolutely amazing :)
